Email Sherlock: Terms of Service
Last updated: November 2, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Work And Play LLC, doing business as Email Sherlock ("we," "us," or "Email Sherlock"). They cover your use of the Email Sherlock service, website (emailsherlock.ai), and email replies (together, the "Service"). By signing up for or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
1. What Email Sherlock is (and isn't)
Email Sherlock is an email-based helper. You forward or send us bills, letters, and emails, and Sherlock replies with general information and suggestions, such as questions to ask, points to raise, and sample wording you can use.
Sherlock does not give professional advice. Nothing in the Service is financial, legal, tax, investment, insurance, accounting, medical, or other professional advice. Email Sherlock is not a law firm, financial advisor, broker, accountant, insurance agent, public adjuster, debt-settlement or credit-repair service, or fiduciary. For legal, tax, investment, or other important decisions, please talk to a licensed professional.
2. No professional relationship
Using the Service does not create an attorney-client, financial advisor-client, fiduciary, or any other professional relationship between you and us. Communications with Sherlock are not protected by attorney-client privilege.
3. You make the decisions
You decide whether to use any suggestion. You are responsible for your decisions and their results, including checking that any information is right for your situation before you rely on it. Sherlock never signs anything, makes payments, or agrees to anything for you.
Emailing companies for you, only with your permission. Sherlock may offer to email a company for you, for example to dispute a charge or ask for a better rate. Sherlock will always ask first and will only send that email after you clearly say yes. Your "yes" covers only that request. When Sherlock emails a company for you, it will usually copy (CC) your email address so you can see what was sent and so the company can confirm it's really you. By saying yes, you authorize us to send that message in your name about that matter and confirm that the information you gave us is accurate. You can withdraw your permission at any time by telling Sherlock to stop. We don't make phone calls for you at this time. Some companies won't deal with anyone but you; if so, Sherlock will give you the words to use yourself. We can't control how a company responds.
4. No guarantee of results
We can't promise any particular outcome. This includes lower bills, refunds, credits, approvals, savings, or how any company or person will respond. Examples on our website are illustrations only.
5. Sherlock can make mistakes
Replies are prepared with the help of automated tools, including artificial intelligence, and may include errors, missing details, or out-of-date information. Please double-check important details such as amounts, dates, deadlines, phone numbers, and policy terms with the original source before acting. People at Email Sherlock may also review messages and replies to help you and to check quality.
6. Your information: consent, 30-day deletion, and sensitive details
- Consent to review. To help you, Sherlock and its service providers (including third-party AI providers) read what you send, and people at Email Sherlock may read it too. When you sign up, you agree to this.
- 30-day deletion. We delete the messages and attachments you send us, and Sherlock's replies, within 30 days. We keep basic account, consent, and billing records longer, for as long as needed for your subscription and for tax and legal reasons. Please keep your own copies of anything important.
- Don't send sensitive details. Sherlock will never ask for your passwords, PINs, security codes, full Social Security number, or full bank, card, or account numbers. Please don't send them, and black out those details before forwarding a document. If you send sensitive information anyway, you do so at your own risk.
See our Privacy Policy for the full details.
7. Free week, plans, and cancellation
- Free week, no card needed. New members can try the Service free for 7 days. No payment card or other payment information is needed to start. Your free week begins when you sign up on our website. Sherlock only answers email from members who have signed up; messages from anyone else are not answered. This applies to both plans. One free week per email address.
- No automatic charge when the free week ends. Near the end of your free week (on or around day 6), we'll email you to ask whether you'd like to keep Sherlock. If you don't choose to subscribe, your free week simply ends. You will not be charged anything, and you won't be signed up automatically. If you email Sherlock after your free week ends without subscribing, you'll get a friendly reply with a link to subscribe.
- Paid subscription is your choice. If you choose to keep Sherlock, you'll enter a payment card through a secure payment page run by Stripe, our payment processor. The Individual plan is $19.99 per month for 1 email address. The Household plan is $29.99 per month for 2 email addresses. Either plan is charged when you subscribe and every month after that until you cancel. Prices don't include any taxes that may apply.
- Household plan. The Household plan lets Sherlock help from 2 email addresses (for example, you and your spouse or partner). It has the same free week and the same opt-in as the Individual plan: no card is needed to start, and you're only charged if you choose to keep Sherlock. The person who subscribes is the account holder for billing and can cancel at any time. We do not offer gift purchases. You add the second email address when you sign up or subscribe.
- Changing your email address. You can change an email address on your subscription once every 90 days, counted from your last change. To change it, email Sherlock from your current address with the new address. We'll send a confirmation to the new address and switch it once you reply. If it's been less than 90 days, we'll tell you the date you can change it again. If you lose access to your email address, contact us and we'll help after verifying it's you.
- Cancel anytime. You can cancel a paid subscription at any time by replying "cancel" to any Sherlock email, emailing ask [at] emailsherlock [dot] ai, or using the link in your Stripe receipt. Cancellation stops future charges. You can keep using the Service until the end of the period you've already paid for. There is nothing to cancel during a free week, because nothing is charged.
- Refunds. Except where required by law, payments are not refundable. If you think you were charged by mistake, email us and we'll look into it.
- Price changes. We'll give you at least 30 days' notice by email before any price change takes effect.
8. Acceptable use
Please don't use the Service for anything illegal, to harass anyone, to send content you don't have the right to share, or to try to disrupt or misuse the Service. We may suspend or end accounts that break these Terms.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent allowed by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We don't promise that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that replies will arrive within any set time.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, Work And Play LLC and its owners, employees, and partners are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any lost money, savings, profits, or data. This includes losses arising from decisions you make or actions you take based on the Service's suggestions. Our total liability for any claim related to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 3 months before the claim, or $50, whichever is greater. Some places don't allow certain limits, so some of these may not apply to you.
11. Disputes and governing law
- Governing law: These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
- Informal resolution first: Before filing a claim, please contact us at len [at] emailsherlock [dot] ai so we can try to resolve it within 30 days.
- Venue: The state and federal courts in Los Angeles County, California, except that either of us may bring a claim in small claims court where eligible.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make a significant change, we'll email you before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the updated Terms.
